It had been crowdfunded. That was impressive. Pages and pages of funders had given enthusiastic support. Over 100,000 copies sold. This must be worth reading, on principle and because with such support, it must be a good read. Surely?
It was slow to get me engaged, but I felt duty-bound to keep going. Those crowds of people supporting this new author deserved that. And then I started to get into it. Now I was excited to see how she would end her story.
It was about a sewing machine, but the uninspiring ending had me feeling well stitched up!

It's wonderful to be on pins and needles and bobbin up and down with anticipation about a story you want to read, only to have the narrative unspool to a threadbare ending.
