Retrieval

I’ve got a mental folder
My best ideas to keep
Safely tucked inside me
When I go off to sleep.

I’m at my most creative
It’s really rather odd
Brain is buzzing like a bee
As I reach the land of nod.

I know I should be smarter
Taking proper notes instead
But tucked up nice and cosy
I want to stay in bed.

On memory I must rely
(Unreliable it seems)
Creative gems unrealised
And muddled with my dreams.

And so I need suggestions
Getting what’s within without
Or great ideas I’ve filed away
Will never come back out.
