Travelling north on the M6 motorway in my cute little Hillman Imp, a rear-engined beauty, me and my new wife were going well until the unusual Imp vacuum accelerator stopped working. Unfixable! Oh no!

J-Cloths claimed to have ‘1000 uses’. I had a few in the car. I tore some into many strips, tied each securely to the next... soon long enough to go from the footpedal, over my shoulder, out the opened back window, into the engine housing and onto the carburettor. Geronimo!

It took us beyond Chester... and then back to London! I make that 1001!

Thanks Drew. ‘One thousand and one cleans a big, big carpet for less than half a crown’ (then repeated) ‘for less than half a crown’ maybe?

You mean Molly Weir I think Drew. She certainly did some of the P&G ads. I’m almost word perfect on the 1001 ad ‘live action foam... deep clean, brings up your carpet like new...’ but I can’t remember if Molly did Flash or 1001. Our ad agency did the Flash, Fairy Liquid, day and Bold ads. I think Molly came into the agency so she probably did the Flash ads.

They say necessity is the mother of invention. And I always thought it was Frank Zappa!

Daz I wrote, not ‘day’... but autocorrect thought it knew best, arrogant automaniac that it is!
