Today was my birthday treat. It wasn’t my birthday, but I had a treat anyway. We drove east to the Essex coast. West Mersea, on the Blackwater, although today’s tide made it lackwater.

A pilgrimage to The Company Shed. A shed. But not any old shed, a shed selling locally caught fresh fish, doubling as a restaurant serving.... well, fish! But not just any old fish.

We took our own wine... and bread... because what they sell is fish, hot or cold. We had scallops and crabcakes. Both way off the scales requiring so little for us to shell out.

Ah, that last line is why I dubbed you the Punmaster.

Thanks Drew. If you’re ever at a loose end and fancy a quick trip up the A12, it’s really worth a visit. Check it out on Google. The Company Shed, West Mersea. Wonderfully authentic, delicious fish and tremendous value. Get there by Noon though to secure a table... take your own booze and bread... no corkage charge or anything silly like that.
