“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” By common agreeement a work of art, the face of the princess was balanced perfection with features to launch ships by the thousand. Beauty was in the eyes of everyone who beheld her.

But beneath the skin of this beauty lay a poisoned mind, an icy heart and character of chronic self-obsession. “Mmmm-mirror, mirror on the wall, thou must speak the truth to all.”

Opening her eyes, she beheld herself, seeing reflected the ugliness of her soul, so ugly the mirror was shattered, as was she.

Very thought-provoking. I wonder how many women (or men, for that matter) see "through a glass, darkly," to quote the Apostle Paul, and never get the opportunity for a magic mirror to actually show them the truth. To be honest, the princess in your story is one of the lucky ones to have finally been shown the truth.
