Looking out through our windows
We cherish the scene
As an autumnal palette
Ousts foliage green.
We celebrate changes
Some natural, some not
An acer we cut down
A pergola that rot.
A shrub we have hated
Since first moving in
Cut to the ground
Dismissed to the bin.
The ivy’s a battle
Fought every year
Formidable enemy
We’re losing, I fear.
The ash that won’t die back
A sun block it stays
Again we must prune it
To access the rays.
As leaves form a carpet
In the cycle of life
We gaze on contented
Me and the wife.

Thank you all. I enjoyed writing it. And of course it’s all true, too!
