The yellowing photo alongside the article in the local press shows a caravan of 16 year old girls setting out from school for a long 20 mile charity walk. Third in line shows the pretty smiling face of the smallest of them. Back then walking boots weren’t in people’s wardrobes, so the prospect of blistered feet would be all too soon realised.
Seven and a half hours later the 19 weary finishers of 26 starters crossed the line in Great Yarmouth. I was there to see the lovely smiling face of the smallest.
I still love seeing it every day.
