“How did they do that?” “Scary!”, “Oh my goodness me!” Many wonderful stage acts have people oohing and aahing at the unimaginable skill, flexibility and daring of the artists.

Billy wasn’t for the high wire or trapeze; he stayed on stage, but nonetheless, he amazed. Billed as ‘Rubberman’, he could twist and bend himself into shapes and knots that seemed impossible.

His secret? Unwinding after every show, he would wrap around himself a supercharged electric blanket and step into a large funnel atop a mould of himself. Wriggling carefully out, he felt like a new man… and very, very squidgy!
