Inverted snobbery

Lyle’s Golden Syrup, or ‘Goldie’ as we cognoscenti know it, is as good inside the tin as on the outside. Unchanged since 1881, this good old fashioned product is divine. It’s a sugar syrup, but it’s inverted... invertose in fact... and that’s where the delicious taste and smell comes from. And the colour? Well of course it’s golden! It’s wonderfully naughty to sneak a spoonful, syrupticiously.

They once announced that the tin would be replaced with a more modern glass jar. There was outrage, panic buying, stockpiling and consuming... and a huge sales uplift!

The tin remains... a British sweetheart.
