I was a new graduate trainee, assigned initially to the London marketing department of top US ad agency Y&R. Their American client RJ Reynolds decided to launch a successful US menthol cigarette brand, ‘Reyno’ (geddit?), in the UK. They decided to make us use their clever US slogan.
I was sent ‘on the road’ to sell the brand to local newsagents. A tough job for a newby!
In the US, Reyno might have ‘brought the men to menthol’, but over here men would certainly not be brought to Reyno. Real men don’t smoke menthol, not then, not now, not ever.

Haha. That's interesting. I had never heard of that cigarette so I looked it up and found a Reyno print ad from as far back as 1910!
