They met at a ball held by the Non-ferrous Metals Guild. Her father had made his fortune in copper, whilst his family’s wealth came from supplying zinc for galvanised steel.

A redhead, she was strong-minded and determined. He was fair, but equally argumentative. It was love at first sight and they made a handsome, if quarrelsome, couple. Well matched, they wed within the year.

The result of their union was a baby boy. The name game became another fiery debate. She favoured the name Alan; his choice was Lloyd.

Stalemate was avoided by naming the little lad Alloy.

Good one. Like the argument the metal magnate had with his wife as between Nicholas and Elijah— Nickel!
