I started a new hobby today... hurdling. I’d researched for advice on how to weave hurdles from hazelwood.... our garden has lots.
The weather was fine and I was home alone. Dressed like a navvy, I set about the task. I had to improvise on the YouTube experts videos by using an aluminium ladder on its side. I reckon my method was best, albeit not ‘traditional’. Spending all morning making my very first hurdle, I learnt by mistakes, peppered with some colourful language.
All complete when Mrs H arrived back. Her approval was the biggest hurdle. Jumped for joy... yeeha!

Hurdling of course is the province of the National Hunt. So appropriate!

When you said your new hobby was hurdling, I thought you meant you were jumping over barriers. I thought, "That's not a hobby, my whole has been one big hurdle jump!"
But as I read on I saw what you meant. That sounds interesting. I looked at it online and I would imagine that's rather therapeutic as well.

Thanks Christopher, I’ve had a lifetime of jumping (often unnecessary) hurdles myself. But this latest hobby of mine is basically making pieces of fencing by weaving hazel canes (I think you call the fruit of the hazel ‘filberts’). It really is therapeutic and quite hard work, but using the aluminium ladder makes it pretty easy...and so good for the soul.🙂
