We know the Battle of Hastings didn't take place at Hastings, but at somewhere called Battle. Now isn't THAT an incredible coincidence?

First blow was apparently struck by William, Duke of Normandy's minstrel, who quickly had the wind blown out of his whistle.

Both sides adopted strict office hours for the one-day encounter. Strictly nine to five, the daylight hours in mid-October (BST wasn't around then, neither was Dolly Parton).

The sneaky Normans won by pretending to run away, so Harold's lot broke ranks. One in the eye for Harold? Apparently not... he was drubbed to death instead.

This is my 1066th drabble. It seemed appropriate.
