At the brothers' reunion lunch we exchanged recipes. Eldest bro grows butternut squash in hundreds but surprisingly hasn't made the soup. I was reciting from memory my regular, super-easy recipe across the table. I came to a problem though when I had to describe the best way to liquidise the delicious broth. I didn't know what the gadget I use was called.
I tried "sticky thing" which raised quizzical looks. Then I tried "whizzer" with the same result.
Then I remembered what our mum had called anything electrical.
"Zodger!" I declared.
"Oh, zodger...", they all said in unison, knowingly.

Making some right now! Yum yum! :-) 'Zodger' was a word made up, I think, by my mum, who was quite a wit. When she couldn't think of a word for something electrical in the kitchen, it was a zodger! I remember it warmly. Thanks mum! :-)
