We'd shot the TV commercial. A bunch of youngsters holding aloft a giant Marathon bar. One of them was chosen to deliver my line 'Comes up peanuts, slice after slice.' to maintain mood and flow.

A recording studio. Soho. The lad 'chosen' to deliver my line had a speech impediment. A problem with his 'peas'. Every single time, out came "comes up beanuts..." The session ran and ran and ran over.

Later.... rejected by the Creative Director.

"Use a professional, goddammit!"

Paul Burnett delivered it perfectly first take, and then left.

Extra costs, but worth it in the long run.

I think it was the director of the commercial, who should have known better. Either that or the agency's creative team. No-one tested his voice in advance...or even listen to him until it was too late! Cheggers (pre fame and infame) was one of the lads (and a very nice bloke). He could have delivered it so much better. But radio DJ Paul Burnett was brilliant. He was in and out of the studio in less than five minutes...and that's not an exaggeration.
