Lunches #1

by

You know when you wished you'd said something....?

Four of us lunched at Garners, an enormous London steak house. With just one other table with lunchers across the room, we waited, we waited and we waited to get our drinks. 20 minutes and then a surly waiter ambled over. We then waited and waited close to an hour for our food.

The waiter finally presented me the bill. At the paydesk, he flipped the bill and stamped 'Service not included' on the reverse. I paid the exact amount.

"Service NOT included sir"

"So we noticed!" I said, "so we noticed."

I've been privileged enough to have had some very memorable lunches over the years, memorable not for the food, but for the events. This little series celebrates some of them.

Sounds like another great series. Always do your complaining AFTER you're done with the food. I know some people that have probably eaten a lot of cooks' and waiters' saliva because they complained about the service BEFORE they got their food.

Speaking of series, any more drabbles forthcoming in the Small Talk series?

Thanks Christopher. There certainly are horror stories on YouTube of waiters and kitchen staff doing unimaginable (except you can imagine!) things to diners' food.

Re the Small Talk series, yes, I must write some more urgently, particularly as I taught the little chap yesterday to say Baba when I took him to the play park.!
