Our wedding anniversary. Not a particularly significant one, although some would say every single one is significant. I'll just say we've had a few.

Off to a bank-breaking restaurant in the evening. Meanwhile, ma-in-law was coming round for lunch (she who'd tried to stop the wedding).

The day was warm and sunny. I sorted lunch on the terrace for me, the missus and the 'gooseberry'. First off, Pimms (packed with fruit), avocado and tomato vinaigrette, moules et frites, sourdough bread, then melon.

My clear duty was to consume everything. My problem would become clear four hours later.

I love the "bank-breaking restaurant." My sister and I went to one of those a couple of years ago at the beach. We were staying at our boss's condo and he told us to have a meal on the company, even telling us which restaurant was the best. We went, and because we weren't paying, I stuffed myself to the gills but wound up paying for the meal later that night anyway (in the bathroom), so I know how you felt.

Amazingly, I found room for more! Ham hock terrine with fig chutney followed by pan fried sea bream with samphire and dill sauce. The dessert of Eton mess though was a bit of a messy letdown. But the whole day was a blast, and the first the wasp arrived to sting the old lady!
