Less than 200 in the world and one runs through my village. Chalk rivers. Threatened and protected. Ours is tiny; its source just outside the village. So pretty, flowing gently parallel to the high street along the valley floor. 'River' is perhaps a bit misleading. In reality, maybe a stream.

This stream has obstacles in its path, but water doesn't struggle, it finds a way, the easiest way. On that way, look for water voles, kingfishers, brown trout, grayling and lots more. Hard to believe in 24 hours its waters will join the mighty Thames.

Perfect for Pooh sticks though.

Thanks, Drew. It's really bucolic and the stuff of fairy tales and runs the length of the village from the watercress beds to the last house of the village and beyond, much later, to the Thames.
