It's a lonely life working the northern comedy circuit, but to make it as a comic, enjoying the buzz of playing a volatile, demanding audience, nights on the road were a must.

'Jokers Wild' was a flexible sharing arrangement between travelling comedians. They shared everything except their material. They shared their experiences, their free time, their thoughts and importantly, their beds.

With a male to female ratio of two to one there were some wild nights, threesomes, foursomes, laughter and exhausted comediennes.

Wives or husbands safely back home...

...but when one contracted Chlamydia, it went wild. It was no joke.

You dance with the Devil you get your toes stepped on. Nice job, Neville.

Oh by the way, I'm going to move to England so you and I can start a punk band called Chlamydia! (I had a metal band in high school so it's not out of my real of expertise.)

That sounds great, Christopher. I can play a mean kazoo and the spoons. I have been known to play the vacuum clear and vase together - lovely resonance! I can also spit and wipe my nose on my sleeve to get that truly authentic punk attitude.

I mostly play the fool these days, but I was on lead guitar and vocals in my old band. Maybe we can get Drew to play the drums!

Btw, Christopher, talking of Chlamydia, Netflix have a wonderful series which is now called Lovesick (but originally when it was made and aired in the U.K. was called by the much more hilarious title 'Scrotal Recall'). Series 2 is only available now on Netflix (which rules me out of seeing it). I love this series which is a brilliant concept, superbly acted about a young man finding out he has Chlamydia and has to contact his past partners in the previous two years. I'm starting to write comedy with a chum from my writers group and a great concept is everything.
