I had a birthday recently. Nothing significant, but I decided to do a special birthday compilation on Sonos. Tricky. What expresses me and my taste?

It's all accessible, but this compilation has to be 100% my taste. No nods to the preferences of Mrs H allowed. And I have to play it really loud.

What to choose? Elvis? Pah! Beatles? Pah! U2? Pah! Stones? Pah! New Romantics? Pah! Rap? Pah! Jazz? Yuk!

What's this? Sex Pistols, Mekons, The Enemy, PIL, Wreckless Eric. Now you're talking.

Amazingly, Mrs H approves. "Play them again, Neville!"

I remain a punk in my soul.

Good for you both. Keep wishing the Shadows had covered a couple of Pistols Numbers. :-)

Do you like the Ramones, Neville? The Damned? The Stranglers? Dead Kennedys? Those are some of the punk bands I like, along with the Clash.

I certainly like The Ramones, Christopher. Indeed when I used to drive to a client in west London (a monster pharma company), our market researcher who often accompanied me reckoned that if we were running late I should put my Ramones tape (yes, remember cassettes?) because that would speed me up. I did get a bit more aggressive!

Is the Hope and Anchor in Upper Street, Drew? If so I've probably sunk a few there. I remember going to the late lamented Queensway Hall in Dunstable to see Toyah and Huang Chung (who subsequently changed the spelling of their name to Wang Chung I think, then on becoming reasonably popular in the US - Christopher might know them) Anyway, the point of all this is that I went to the gents and whilst peeing looked left to see a bloke in a tartan skirt and his ankles were chained together! Well...let's say I had to dry off my shoes! 🙁

Yeah, Wang Chung was pretty big here. They did one of my favorite 80's songs, "Dance Hall Days." Toyah I only know from the classic concert film "Urgh! A Music War."
