It was a huge white lab rat, deceased. Andy brought it back for his supper. We were poor students and he was studying biochemistry.
Whilst the guinea pigs were tasty last week, something put him off about ratty. He allowed me to skin it though, which I did and pegged and cured it.
Being a practical engineering student and a 'maker of things', I then hand-stitched the wonderful pelt into a fully lined, blanket-stitched purse, for the girl I loved. Classy!
Ratskins aren't bunny-like, they're coarse. Of course, she dumped it, but fortunately, she didn't dump me!

Too funny, Neville. This put me in mind of one of my favorite TV shows, "The Young Ones." They were poor students always looking for food. (Indeed, one of the characters, Vyvyan, actually ate a rat out of the trash can on one episode.)

And I just noticed the category was True Stories Told As Fiction. Are you serious?

Indeed I am, Christopher. My wife sitting next to me right now says she can't remember throwing it out, but she reckons her overbearing mother (aka 'the Prehistoric') probably threw it out for her, interfering woman that she's always been; she has never liked me (it's mutual!).
It was a lovely job I made, although rat's pelt certainly is coarse, but I think it was mind over matter on Mrs H's part (the then Miss E).

Your life never ceases to amaze me, my friend.

Thanks, Christopher. I think Mrs H must like a rollercoaster life!
