I thought I'd won the lottery
When 'er indoors selected me
That moment when she checked my name
(It seems I had some classroom fame.)
My looks were rather Dylanesque
Had said her neighbour in the very next desk.
Seeing this girl across the room
It skipped a beat, my heart went boom
Just my type and there that day
Petite and pretty and looking my way.
To make connection and influence fate
I'd need to punch above my weight.
Desperately shy
She'd caught my eye
The ice she broke
To meet this bloke
Who's loved her since
She spoke.

Corny, but hell...it's wonderful!

Thanks, Indigo, (as he looked across at 'er indoors) :-)

So 'er indoors was your childhood sweetheart? I've always wondered what it must be like to love someone for a lifetime... very sweet!!
Neville Hunt about 7 years ago
'Er indoors was and is my sweetheart, Max. She was 16; I was extremely old at 20. It was love at first sight.... and has been the subject of a drabble or two when the mood takes me. It seems to have worked! :-)

You probably know this, but 'er indoors was the way the fictional character Arthur Daley described his wife (who was never seen) in the wonderful sitcom Minder from 1979 to 1989. Daley, played superbly by the late, great George Cole, was rather a dodgy London character operating at the edges of and inside the blackmarket. Terry, played brilliantly too by Dennis Waterman, was Arthur's 'minder'. 'Er indoors' is an homage to Arfer!

I do remember Arfer & 'er indoors, Neville! One of my dad's favourite tv progs! :-) A thoughtful tribute. So Mrs Neville was just sweet 16 when you swept her off her feet, lucky girl!! ;-)

Luckier me, Max. And I'm still lucky a few (!) years on? :-)
