Siege #8

by

Midway through the siege, with the media as hungry as half-starved hyenas, it was the day of the agency's annual staff meeting. A leading advertising company, this was a big affair at a swanky Park Lane hotel, an easy half-hour walk from the Square. So come 2.30pm, me and others not working from home trooped out through the blue plastic that 'sterilised' the Square.

At the end of the little street were the media, microphones in hand. Being the first to reach them, one asked me excitedly "What's happening, what's happening?"

Amazingly, I resisted the urge to extemporise!

Congratulations, Neville. You accelerated to the front of the pack when you were doing your Skin Deep series and you never let up. That's quite an impressive accomplishment, and it's quality and not just quantity. Well done.

Thanks very much, Christopher. I really appreciate that. I wasn't being competitive, except with myself. I've recruited a few new drablrs along the way, because I find it a drug and a therapy. I had a wobble at the start of 2017, deep depression, but when the clocks went forward it all changed. :-)

I know the feeling well. Really been through the ringer the last several months, but I couldn't get this out of my system. Even though I didn't want to write I still was thinking about new drabbles almost daily.

I hope you too are on the way up now, Christopher. Your contribution has been massive. I'd like Jake 3 to accelerate you right past me, but be warned...I might decide to bring Rufus out of 'retirement' too. :-)

That would be a welcomed return. And thank you, Neville.
