If Harold hadn't had to go far north to kick Harald the Norseman's arse, then maybe he wouldn't have arrived with his army at Hastings absolutely knackered.
So Duke Bill and his Gallic bunch had it easy.... they retreated, got the closed-ranked English to break ranks and then came back to kick the shit out of them. That was sneaky.... but it was one in the eye for the English.
But who learns from history? Not Napoleon, not Kaiser Bill and certainly not Adolf. Thank goodness!
