Dateline 2 January 2017 minus 50. Two young people exchanged meaningful, lingering glances across a room at a seasonal party. Neither expected love at first sight. She didn't want to be there. She'd gone out of politeness. He'd gone because that's what he did... partywent. He was a Bob Dylan lookalike; she was simply the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. He thought he had no chance, but she came over to speak to him. She was pretty; he was pretty chuffed.

Half a century on, nothing much has changed... except for eight others who should be pretty chuffed too.
