Blessed

The man sitting on the ground in the underpass held a hand-written legend telling us that he was living on the streets and could we please help him. The message concluded ‘God Bless You and Your Family’. I had no money as I headed for the shopping centre. “He seems a decent man down on his luck,” I thought and decided I would drop some money into his hat on my return.

I returned. As I got close, mobile phone to ear, I heard him say, “See you back at the house!”

“Nah!” I thought as I walked past.
