When the lightning struck the old chestnut tree it wasn’t just the chestnuts that were roasted. The whole tree was riven from top to root in an instant. Split asunder in an almost biblical way.
It wasn’t the smartest place to stand in an electric storm and Alec was thrown twenty yards, where bracken broke his fall, but nothing else. It was remarkable that he survived, but people do. Alec was lucky...luckier than the man who came to his aid and stretched out for his hand, only to take a gift of several thousand volts of secondary charge from Alec.

Wow! I bet that was a very illuminating experience for the poor man who came to help, learning that the old adage "no good deed goes unpunished" is actually true! Another great one, Neville. (Almost biblical! Loved that description!)

Secondary charge seemed plausible but the Internet said no. Guilty as charged. May I be allowed to call it artistic licence? (Did The Bard no harm after all.)

Perhaps I should do a new Drabble on the topic that will stand up to scientific scrutiny...but in the meantime, why spoil a good yarn?

Hey, Neville, there are a whole host of things in this ol' world that can't be explained away by a Google search. That's the miracle of good storytelling. And yours was good. Internet be damned!
