The essence of a skilled barber is the use of scissors. How true now? I remember evocative haircuts from Seville to Singapore, undertaken by craftsmen proud of their art.
But woe betide, yesterday I was deceived into taking the chair in a so-called "barbers" with no scissors in sight, apparently obsolete.
Brandishing electric clippers, the young man proposed a range of "grades" 0-8. Disguising ignorance, I chose 4, not wanting to leave the shop looking like a US marine. Now I'm sheared like a sheep, precisely 1/2 inch all over. Damage? 20 quid!
Back to Trumpers next time.
