We hid from the men until they left the strawberry field. Then we sneaked from the woods and feasted on their strawberries, crouched among the plant rows, afraid of their return. We filled our aching bellies and giggled. I had never been happier than at that moment.

It did not last. Hearing a truck coming, we sprinted into the woods, running and running. Hiding.

Later we circled back to the village and sneaked into our beds, thinking we had committed the perfect crime.

But in the morning the men searched the village and found us.

They caught us red-handed.
