Edward was being born with myasthenia gravis. He grew up bedridden, muscles too weak to move.
His family sought out an alchemist, who taught them how to brew a potion to make the boy strong. The potion gave Edward strength but turned him into a monstrous parody of a human being; with his deformed limbs and posture, people named him ‘the Beast’.
He became a doctor. He relied on the potion for strength while searching for a cure. Shunned by society, he kept to himself with only his manservant for company.
For who could ever love a beast like him?
