The Winning Story

Recognising popular critic Jack Malman from the awards, I sycophantically engage him. We naturally begin discussing the winning story and politic of the Choice.

Sadly we disagree about the ending, Jack despises the wasteful repetition and misunderstands the cat picture but I find it delightfully circular.

We agree the whale’s appearance is necessary but ostentatious.

Jack finds the intrinsic criticism smug, I find it playful.

He doesn’t see clues revealing what the story is.

I explain it’s a picture showing a cat looking at a picture of a cat looking at a picture of a cat and so on forever.
