There was a problem with the room; something to do with the fridge.

‘Shouldn’t be long,’ the receptionist said. After a few minutes, he retreated behind a computer screen.

‘Should we say something?’ she whispered, which meant that I should say something.

‘What do you want me to say?’ I said. ‘The room’s not ready.’

‘I don’t know. Ask for another room?’

‘There’s only one honeymoon suite. We've paid for it. What do you want me to do?’

‘Nothing,' she said. ‘I don't want you to do anything. It's fine. We’ll just sit here and wait.’

'Everything's fine,' I said.

"Fine" the word that hits a nerve.

It’s hardly the bloke’s fault.... and patience is a virtue that will probably be needed over the coming years by each of them, so probably worth practising right from the start.
