The church bells tolled for the last time in the desert town of Cawmiro. The final couple, in Sunday bests, left their tiny hovel of a home and set foot into the dusty street, hand tightly in hand. A garrulous wind whipped up around them, saturated with the swallowed voices of those who had walked this walk before.

The couple had hoped for a family once but the teeth of the church eat all dreams and eventually all muscle and tissue. Now it’s unfathomed belly was almost full. Billions were digested and gone but other worlds would have billions more.

Another superb drabble, my friend. There's a hint of something vast and epic behind this, reminds me alot of Pedro Paramor (Juan Rulfo) or maybe a bit of Marquez or Borges. Nice one, superb imagery.
