“Where are you going?” he asked.
“I dunno, far away from you,” she said.
“I won’t let you go,” he growled, blocking the door.
“Oh yeah? I’d like to see you stop me. We are finished! You hear me? Finished!”
She looked at him with daggers in her eyes.
He took a step back and let her pass. Let her think she got away. Now was not the time to act. He needed a new plan fast and... she would soon realise who pulled the strings in this relationship.
No one, absolutely no one left him unless he said so.

Ooh-er! This is really menacing Frenchie. What a great start. I’m already extremely concerned for her. (It resonates quite a bit in this time of lockdown, although maybe it’s even more difficult to leave right now.)

Thank you Neville. I Was thinking the same. How many men and women are trapped at the moment. I will write each stories In the series as a stand alone. Denouncing abuse is one of my passion and I want to convey we don’t have to be a victim though it may not be so easy to escape.

I am appalled by abuse and can’t imagine what, other than drink or drugs, could prompt anyone to this kind of behaviour to one who has been chosen above others to be a companion and partner. But I guess I have led rather a sheltered life, albeit quite poor at times. Brava to you Frenchie for tackling the subject. I did write a very short series a fair while back in which the perpetrator gets his comeuppance well and truly.

I’ll check your series. 🙏🏻 Must have been while I had a long spell away....

I’ve tried to find that series, Frenchie, but it’s not easy to find. In the meantime, a single drabble I wrote (and even dared to repost) was called ‘Black, blue and a little green’. It was meant to be in the monologue style of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads series.

Menacing, indeed. And unfortunately very real for some with no out.
