When the stone hit her, drawing first blood, the crowd went wild. Running, protecting herself from the next volley, she stumbled onto the hot sand, arms flaying. The crowd chanted, ''Adulteress, adulteress.'' For her, death by stoning. Her young lover, hands bound, tears running, cursed himself for not taken them further away. For him, the whip and banishment. He was unmarried. She wasn't. It's the law.
The first lash cut deep into his flesh. He didn't care. He welcomed the pain. A last look at her prone body, he prayed his own death would come, for failing to protect her.

Very loosely inspired by the story of Princess Misha’al bint Fahd al Saud and her lover, in 77. She was publicly executed by being shot in the head while her lover was beheaded. A controversial film, Death of a Princess was made and aired in UK .

I remember it, well written.

I think it should be "cursed himself for not taking them further away." Otherwise I like this a lot.

I have no knowledge of this but it seems a very sad tale. Very well crafted drabble.
