Not So Soothing lullaby...

My friend hurt today. I sat by his side, put his head on my lap, singing to him the lullaby I used to sing to my children. Mind you, my singing wouldn't soothe anyone. Once upon the time, I was roaming the seas with my siren sisters, enticing the sailors. Unfortunately, with me in the band, my sisters had not luck so, they cast me away.
My friend fell asleep, not noticing the birds stopping in mid flight, the dogs howling to the moon, or the cats falling from the roof.
Wow, I thought, he must have been really upset.
