A friend of mine called Gerry told me that, during the war, he used to work at Duxford as the resident meteorologist. Duxford was an important wartime airfield,

“We got all the information we could, from charts, from maps, from forecasts and so on.” He said. “I would study these avidly for as long as I could, but when the Commanding Officer came to ask about the weather and prospects, I had to answer. It could mean the lives of airmen.”

“So I went outside, looked at the sky and decided: Safe to go up or not safe.”
