Snow had fallen all night.
I opened the door and surveyed the scene.
I could hear the sounds of subniveal activity.
It looked as if my hebdomadal meeting would not happen. It was mostly filled with badinage anyway. Or am I just being pusillanimous?
The meeting tended to degenerate into seriatim anyway, with the manager becoming ultracrepidarian, whereas I was definitely trying to be sedulous. When he got to his peroration most of us had had enough
I could go in late and spend time here on my painting … it would be a good day to enhance the chiaroscuro

I have been collecting unusual words and their meanings, as used by Colin Dexter in his Morse series of books. The aim here was to construct a Drabble that used a lot of these. So here are nine of them. I could provide a dictionary but it would take four or five comments. The words DO make sense.

I spotted the nine ( i think) off to the web dictionary!

Well done if you counted all nine. I was unsure what to do about defining them (and about 24 more that I have collected). I don’t think I would use them in any writing, but some writers might … Colin Dexter for example. Having read most of the Morse books now, I can’t say I would recommend them. They are a bit slow and convoluted.

Im very curious about all of them, and such a unique hobby. This drabble was excellent. they merge really well. Guess, i was just suffering from, Verbophobia and that lead to a discovery of Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia!
I'm sure you have the list of these too
