Neville looked down at the black hole in his allotment.
Black, totally black. So black that you could not see a thing in it.
Was it deep? Was it shallow? There was no way of knowing, none whatsoever.
He couldn’t see the bottom, only blackness.
Tentatively, and holding on to a convenient post, he put one foot into the hole. Right into it.
The foot disappeared completely. He could not feel a thing - but the foot was gone!
Carefully he bent his knee and pulled his foot out.
It was glowing a bright luminous green!
“Hello,” he thought, “something’s afoot!”
