Jim, a professor at Houston University, came up to me.

“We plan to send an instrument to Mars to look for evidence of life, and you can help with the instrumentation. It has to be small, light and consume minimum power.”

So I got to work, finished the design and off went the probe.

It landed safely on Mars but found no evidence of life. It is still looking, 50 years later.

In thanks NASA sent me an official badge and a sample of moon dust for analysis.

Thanks for this chance Jim, and congratulations on reaching your 102nd birthday.

Fabulous present, Richard. You never told me about it. Had it been given to me, I’d have told everyone I met and a lot more besides! Welcome to Drablr; I hope you enjoy our gang. (Btw, Drew, above, is in my opinion the unchallenged Drablmeister! His writing is terrific and his active support of everyone in the Drablr community is very humbling.)

If it's true about the moon dust I'm jealous. ;-)
