Stars and Beetles
Giving me Pins and Needles
In a stranger way than I can understand
Looking to the north star
Catch many another sight
On the way and in the way and oh
I can see you've come far
Through a not quite endless night
Burning dark and brighter than we know
Going? Take me with you
But not without a get out clause
I seek escape yet hanker after home
A magic door to go through
Yet with a way to put on 'Pause'
A journey I'm about to make alone
Beetles and stars
Right here and Mars

A very thoughtful poem, Jamie.... which I will read again and probably again. You may have seen that my brother (fellow Drablr) has an analytical bit of kit roaming round the surface of Mars. I just roam around bars🙂

I like the rhyming and the content, which pulls one back to re-read, again and again. Nice one!

It owes something to two J.B.S Haldane quotes which I like whether he actually said them or not. 'The universe is not only stranger than we understand, but stranger than we can understand.' and another I don't know off by heart but essentially says that if we can infer anything about the creator from the universe, it is an inordinate fondness for stars and beetles.' (I think he was an agnostic .

I love the dichotomy of wanting to roam the stars but still wanting to be home.
