The gravity of what had happened was not lost on Number 14. He and his brothers had just killed their father. His identical brothers, his identical father.

The machine kept churning out new brothers, identical brothers, who would have been raised by this soulless man to be pawns in his cruel chess game, to fight and die for his ambitions with no dreams of their own.

Number 14 looked down at his father, with his identical brothers and there were no tears in his eyes. They couldn't have killed their father after all. This man was no father of theirs.

I like this. The "father" got what he deserved. I wonder what triggered the "brothers" to kill him...

I hadn't really thought of a prequel before, but there definitely is the possibility, especially since both you and Horrorshow had the same thoughts about what triggered the event in the drabble. Thank you Drew, and thanks to you as well Francine for the comments!
