Determined to sever his connection with his bandmate, the bass got a friend, a crew member, on the promise of taking the lead’s place, to connect, accidentally, the lead’s guitar strings to an on-stage high voltage lighting circuit. The lead had a speciality, his party-piece, playing his guitar with his tongue in the middle of a riff. Charged with 1000 volts, the high note he reached was a record. And the stage rocked.

The bass was charged too. Murder One. Number 1 again! Final performance was electric! He sat it out.

The only thing discharged was their contract.

It'd been a long-running feud between the band’s bass player and lead guitarist, something about one of them caught shagging the other’s woman, publicly in a fountain, by a tabloid paparazzo. Water may have gone under the bridge, but it remained turbulent to the point of regular physical confrontations.

But their recording contract, signed when they were kids, before their meteoric rise to fame, was rock-solid and prevented a split without huge financial penalties – they would both be bankrupted. They’d sold millions of records and made money galore, but that damned contract kept them bound together.

Unless…
