Wet, wet, wetter

Nevilles Travails - Indonesia

We were at a creative industries conference in Indonesia. I stayed on the top floor of a modern hotel in the centre of Bandung. Modern it might’ve been, but not modern enough to have air-conditioning.... and boy, was it hot! I showered several times a day, but it was pointless. By the time the lift reached the ground floor, I was drenched. But not as drenched as later.

Monsoon at 4pm sharp every day seemed like the Great Lakes emptying from above. Drains overflowed. So did I. It felt great!

And then it stopped. Just like that! Until tomorrow...

Staying alive in Java

Nevilles Travails - Djakarta Indonesia

Everywhere you go in Djakarta seems mighty risky. Light Sabres ready, security guys give you, your car, your taxi the once over. The cars get the once under too, with large mirrors used to check the underside. No bombs, no extra bulky belts... I've been checked.... nothing dangerous, so what's the risk?

The Javanese are lovely smiley people, and it's hard to believe they pose threats to visitors. But they do!

Mounting myriad motor scooters, they become crazed monsters, risking lives, weaving at top speed in and out, honking horns like banshees. Few accidents, but risk of heart attacks aplenty.
