Pray listen to my humble ode
About life from when the seed was sowed
From the uphill struggle of the tiny sperm
To the fullness of a 9 month term.
From then on it’s all downhill
From nappies on to making a will
But the very best bit is in between
I'm sure you all know what I mean
The bit we casually call life,
Me, the kids and lovely wife
For life it is, if truth be told
That gives me no time for getting old
And now it seems, with grandkids five
Even more reasons for staying alive.
BE MY WITNESS
We've had a disagreement,
My lovely wife and me,
Concerning my finale,
When age gives up on me.
She says I'm not a soldier,
And never went to war,
So I can't have my favourite song
When I'm at last no more
But I've a personal favourite,
When I am laid to rest,
Bear witness please, O Valiant Heart's
The hymn that I like best.
NEVILLE IN DISGUISE
I may be old, but I'm not wise
I'm just a young man in disguise
Beneath my wrinkled skin I mean,
Is an awkward youth of a mere sixteen
