Finally, it had happened. One day... the pundits said. And now that day had arrived. England had won the World Cup. OK, it had taken until 2034,
but never mind said the pundits again. This was it, the dawning of a brave new age in sports history.

England had been rampant in the tournament, impressive in every match. With no cause for criticism, it had been the opposite of most fan's expectations.

Knighthoods were rumoured for the manager and the players. A lavish welcome was laid on at the airport.

The world of tiddlywinks would never be the same again.

As an American who enjoys watching football occasionally, (and is really enjoying the World Cup) it is refreshing to read something that displays a similar interest, especially since I am the only person I know with any interest in the sport.
