I’d put so much effort in the Valentine’s card; I’d put my life and soul into the project since January. A carefully made thing of beauty, just like the girl it was intended for.

A thoughtful, cheeky, yet sincere poem inside to express my true feelings of infatuation.

I’d left it in her locker, and sat back to wait for the fireworks. They never came.

On the day itself, I sat in the Sixth Form common room and watched in horror as she got off with someone else, straight after thanking them for the Valentine’s Day card I had made.
