I was distracted by something in my peripheral vision, one more glance and I was speechless.
Beautiful was too less to describe; was single toned and dressed in black.

My fingers ached, I wanted to touch and feel.
I wondered if she will be loud or mellow, will lead or follow.
I wanted to show her my world, play, surprise her with my gifts.
I desired her to be mine, spellbound with my tricks.

I starred at her immaculate perfection,
Did she understand our silent communication?

Only if wishes were horses…

Around the corner, was the classic Steinway Model B

What an interesting way to describe a piano (if I've successfully decoded this drabble, that is).

    A super drabble, Verity.
Pianos are wonderful instruments and one particular upright one featured greatly in my youth. My brothers and I frequently opened it up to see how it worked. Piano lessons though, despite probably being an excellent technical way to teach a six year old were dull and the associated practice was hard (and often neglected) work. To this day I will never listen again to a single sonatina by Clementi.

Thought it was about an insect at first, then a dress , then a person.. Enjoy being wrong footed like that. Thanks for the ride :-)

I would play Verity except I have no piano any more. I am trying to make some guitars right now out of cigar boxes and so I’ll be plinking and plonking really soon if they work out OK. 🎸🎸🎸 As for listening, I do a lot of that, but never to Clementi! But maybe I’ll get on Spotify and find out if they were as bad as I thought at the time. (Thinks... why didn’t the teacher give me Mozart or Brahms or Liszt instead!)

A propos of absolutely nothing much, but vaguely related, I can recommend the Irish movie ‘Once’ if you can access it. It’s musical and instead of using actors for the male and female leads, they used musicians... a talented pianist and a singer/songwriter/guitarist. And it’s a lovely film.

Thanks Neville, I'll try and watch the movie.
I feel sorry, your teacher couldn't interest you in early days.
Wish you luck on that guitar- cigar boxes?! couldn't get more creative

I play a multitude of instruments, even had my own band in junior high and high school, and I never once had a lesson. I taught myself guitar, bass, piano, drums, banjo, steel guitar (the last two I never played much considering my band played mostly heavy metal). My sister bought a ukulele recently. I'd never picked one up before and within five minutes I was playing AC/DC's "Back In Black" on it. My sis said, "Thanks for once again showing me up!"

I’m told that cigar box guitars are all the rage in parts of the Appalachians and in the North and Midlands of England (not that I live in any of these). I started earlier in the year, but with the advent of summer, I have been preoccupied with tomato plants!... so there’s been limited progress on the instruments (3-string and 4-string variants.. Maybe I’ll exchange my logo profile pic for a while for a work in progress pic of them 🤔

Will do, Verity, but please bear in mind that they are still work in progress! My son-in-law has completed one and it sounds pretty good. I infected him with the idea and he beat me to completion. But I will share my humble efforts!

Done! They should appear soon but there is usually a delay (something to do with the cache, but I’m no computer whiz) before the new profile pic shows up. The one on the left will be a four string version and is the most finished, it just needs polish, strings, bridge and pickup. In the centre is a three string, with putting in the fretwire the next step. On the right, it’s a wine case (not cigar box) three or four string acoustic variant, before I add the white marker dots. I just need to get my act together and finish them! 🥴
