English class was not going well for asylum-seeking refugees in the hostile Detention Centre.

The tutor’s incoherent ramblings glazed over the eyes of every student save one, who was valiantly tussling with the theological necessity for Shrove Tuesday and the tradition of pancake tossing. Tosser’ he understood, he’d been called one himself but he didn’t get ‘pancake’, so surreptitiously reached under the desk with his mobile to learn.

Tapping the phone, a half-second video of a young aproned goddess throwing food out of a pan looped over and over hideously trapped in the ether as he silently wept.

Love it! Gritty subject matter, but played with some gentle humour. I think you're getting the hang of this drabbling lark pretty fast, Ursula.

It's worth following other drabblrs for inspiraration and enjoyment :-) Drew Martyn is a talented and most fecund drabbler and Lisa Williams has loads of brilliant drabbles too, although she's been a bit quiet for the past month. You find them and many more in the 'Discover' page. If you follow them then anything they publish comes up in your feed. I'm following quite a number of people and being followed by even more. Not everyone is quite so productive as Drew and Lisa (or me) though so you don't end up with hundreds to read each day!.

Thanks a million Drew. I'm new to this drabbling and really value any comments. Looking forward to finding The Apartment #1!
