Hold my hand, as I held yours.
In those halcyon days; as you learned to walk and then to run.
Hold my hand, like I held yours; as you learned to ride a bicycle or tie your shoes.
You held my hand, while perched upon my shoulders. While walking in the rain.
You held my hand as I welcomed you home, then again as you left to start your life with your partner.
Now hold my hand through this difficult time. Like I yours at the start.
Now hold my hands as I say goodbye, with love in my heart.

This is really beautiful Jeff. I confess to a tear in my eyes upon reading it. Heartfelt.

Wow. This is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I hope your writing has been therapeutic to you during this obviously difficult period you're going through.

Thank you all.
I wrote it for dad's funeral. The celebrant read it at the graveside. I couldn't and knew that I wouldn't be able to. So, the celebrant read it for us. Everything went as well as could be expected. Just tired now. But still here. :)
